Worldwide about 8,700 bird species have been recorded of which 475 species have been observed in Europe, while 436 species are found in Greece. Our country is very important both as a gateway and as a resting station for migratory birds. A large proportion thereof uses our island as a passageway for central Europe. The first station is the islands of Strofadia which have rightly so been named the Galapagos of the Mediterranean.
The museum has a rich collection of 850 species of birds from around the world.
